Four days ago, after the final debate, Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham met with contributor and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee for a post debate discussion. As usual, the hosts overlooked Trump’s inability to discuss real policies or corner Hillary on easy points like the Wikileaks controversy. Instead, they focused on slandering all “Never Trumpers” as abortion advocates along with Hillary and her ilk.
The discussion began with Huckabee calling all Catholics and Evangelicals to recognize the obvious contrast between Trump and Clinton regarding abortion-
“I hope that every Catholic and every Evangelical in this country paid careful attention to the stark contrasts between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton when it came to the issue of protecting innocent human life. Hillary Clinton vividly defended the idea of late term partial birth abortion, calling it ‘women’s health’. Donald Trump boldly took a stand for life tonight, and for all these “never trumpers” out there, they need to get of their keister- there is a clear choice here Sean. “
Let me first say that Mike Huckabee is a nice, well-intentioned man that is worthy of respect. However, his response is problematic for many reasons.
Firstly, many voters still question Trump’s views on abortion since, until last year, he was pro-choice and for Planned Parenthood. For those of us who still question Trump’s authenticity, the contrast isn’t stark enough.
Secondly, Trump was not bold in defending life. He said he’d appoint pro-life judges, but if Roe v Wade is overturned, he’ll leave it to the states to decide… Wait, what? Someone who is boldly defending life would declare that the Constitution provides EVERY individual life, and thus the law should be a federal one and not left up for each state to decide. Letting states decide whether or not to kill their unborn humans is by definition, unconstitutional.
Thirdly, the choice is not as clear for some. Americans, particularly Republicans, have never been more conflicted and anguished. Yes, Trump is probably the best of two evils, but what about those whose conscience demands they sit this election out or vote for third party candidates like Gary Johnson or Evan McMullin?
The highlight of the conversation, though, comes when Laura Ingram accuses all Never Trumpers of standing with Hillary on abortion.
“ They’re standing with the woman who stood up there today and saying “I’m for a hundred percent for Roe v. Wade and partial birth abortion. That’s what ‘Never Trump’ stands for.”
It may seem like ordinary political talk but really consider what Ingraham just said. She just said that if you don’t support Trump, you support the death of unborn babies. That’s the kind of nasty talk that comes from a bully, and that’s exactly what Ingraham and Hannity have become. The conversation could’ve ended after comparing the two viewpoints of the candidates but lately, the two Fox News host have taken it further and slammed anyone who doesn’t support their candidate:

Months ago Republicans were chastising Trump for his immature and misinformed bully tactics, denouncing his attacks and nasty tweets. Now, they’re mirroring his behavior, and it’s gross. Not only does it discredit decent republicans with true conservative beliefs, it discredits conservatism by painting all Republicans/Conservatives as bullies.2 comments
